Sony’s E3 Press Conference Recap

 

Sony had a strong press briefing, showing off more surprises than one can count all the while giving so much fan service the crowd didn’t seem like they would stop cheering. Blockbusters such as Call of Duty Black Ops 3, Street Fighter 5 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End were amazing while titles like The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Dreams came out of nowhere to everyone’s pleasant surprise. Here is a complete recap of Sony’s E3 press conference.

The Last Guardian

They’re back !

The longtime development of The Last Guardian has build enough hype to fill an entire convention center, and boy did it ever. The first ever gameplay since it’s reveal was more than worth the wait. The Last Guardian will launch in 2016 for the PS4.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

The post-apocalyptic third-person action title is from Killzone developers Guerilla Games. Players take control of a female protagonist as she hunts robots and tries to understand what happened to the world that once was. Horizon will have looting and destructible environments.

Hitman

Simply titled, Hitman. The newest entry in the longtime franchise promises to be the biggest yet, with an evergrowing map and exclusive missions for the PS4. Hitman will launch December 2015.

Street Fighter 5

Down, tilt, forward, A

Sony got to show off the fighting game exclusive, along with 2 new characters in Cammy and Birdie. Street Fighter 5 will have an early beta access available for those who pre-order the game, starting July 23.

No Man’s Sky

Those colors though

Possible the most ambitious game of all time, No Man’s Sky is an galaxy sized open world exploration game. Sony showed off some new gameplay footage, along with space combat, swimming and planet exploration.

Dreams

Media Molecule’s newest game is as odd and strange as you’d expect from them. Players sculpt, draw and animate with all with the Dualshock 4. They can then send them to servers where others have full control of them.

Firewatch

Firewatch is a first person adventure game full of puzzles and narrative. Sony got a full trailer complete with gameplay. Firewatch will make it’s console debut on PS4.

Destiny DLC

Destiny will get it’s next major DLC in the form of The Taken King, launching September 15 2015.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

A new cinematic trailer showed off Evie Frye, the eldest of the Frye twins in all her combat prowess glory.

World of Final Fantasy

A Final Fantasy title that plays with the idea of size. Players can switch between small chibi-like forms and fully fledged rendered heroes. World of Final Fantasy will be available next year for the PS4 and Vita.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

It’s happening ! Final Fantasy 7 Remake got a shiny trailer, setting the mood with some narration and recognizable locals.

4 Devolver Games

Devolver is a studio that houses indi devs. They got to show off 4 games in total. Ronin is a 2D stealth platformer, Eitr is a top-down beat em up, and Mother Russia Blades and Crossing Souls are sidescrolling beat em ups.

Shenmue 3

Shenmue 3 is in development and you can help finish it ! Although Sony is not developing it, they did promote the kickstarter page. As I am writing this 30 minutes after the kickstarter went live, it is at over 800,000$ of it’s 2 million stretch mark. Pretty safe bet if any.

Batman Arkham Knight

Sony showed a brand new gameplay trailer, putting Batman baddy scarecrow center stage.

Project Morpheus

Sony’s virtual reality headset got some time in the sun. It will be the first VR headset to support multiplayer, both for those without multiple VR headsets and those lucky enough to have more than one.

Playstation Vue

Sony’s newest entertainment initiative. Vue is a live television streaming service that provides a la cart channels available in July. Subscribers can also purchase individual channels, PS Plus subscribers will get a discount on Playstation Vue.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3

Has Call of Duty found a new home ?

For the first time ever, multiplayer map packs will be available first on Playstation. The Call of Duty Black Ops 3 beta will start August for PS4 only.

Star Wars

Disney Infinity 3.0 was shown off, with 2 mission packs available. Twilight of the Republic and Rise Against the Empire will have players take control of events set between the movies. There is also an exclusive Bobba Fett figure. Star Wars BattleFront’s single player/cooperative game mode was also shown off, having rebels try to survive an onslaught of Empire attackers.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Sony ended the conference with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. An extensive gameplay trailer was aired.
