Weapons have been a massive part of games for decades. Some are iconic and some are there to add realism to the game.
Imagine if you will that life was a game, and in this game the zombie apocalypse had hit the entire world. In order to survive some kind folk have given you the keys to a vault that held every single weapon ever made from the entire library of video games. Although you are shown this massive library of weapons you are told you can only take 10 with you on your merry quest of survival. Picking 10 may sound like an easy task to do but given that there is so many weapons to choose from it actually could be more difficult picking these 10 weapons than actually surviving the apocalypse.
Mk 2 Lancer – Gears of War
My first pick really would just be a nice and steady Assault Rifle. There are plenty out there but really how many come with an added chainsaw. Perfect for long distant shooting this weapon also became a beast in close quarters situations with the added brutality of the chainsaw.
Just perfect for those times when shooting something just won’t cut it
A nice comfortable all-rounder that has a nice devastating close quarter weapon attached. Just perfect for those times when shooting something just won’t cut it.
Auger – Resistance
The next weapon would have to be the Auger simply for the ability to recognise and shoot enemies through walls. In the grand scheme of things this is probably not the most iconic weapon out there or the most talked about but being able to shoot through walls and avoid a conflict altogether really adds a nice tactic in any situation.
Plasma Cutter – Dead Space
If precision cutting is what you’re after then look no further than the Plasma Cutter from Dead Space. Originally designed as a mining tool it also seems to be very effective at dismembering limbs from any living being. The plasma cutter can cut horizontally and vertically giving you a giving you ease of use without having to rotate your whole arm. The plasma cutter can be very useful in crowd control as it would take a few shots to take the legs off anything running towards you.
Portal Gun – Portal
So here enters the most tactical weapon on this list. Granted it can’t shoot anyone but the beauty is in what it shoots. A gun that shoots Portals could really help you out in any situation whether it be to remove enemies, obstacles or even yourself from one location to another. No weapon on this list comes close to beating the tactics that can be dished out with the Portal gun and it really is a must in anyone’s list.
Plasmids/ Vigors – Bioshock
Imagine being able to shoot fire or electricity from you hand. Imagine being able to possess enemies and machines into doing the dirty work for you. Imagine being able send bees or crows into battle for you to give you an advantage on the battlefield. Well with Plasmids/Vigors no need to imagine anymore. With a multitude of different Plasmids/Vigors on offer there really is no challenge you can’t overcome.
Master Sword – The Legend of Zelda
So far in this list it has been very gun heavy and that’s now about to change as the next weapon I would have with me is the Master Sword.
When guns won’t cut it there really is only one sword that will
When guns simply won’t cut it there really is only one sword that will. With Its most known ability to vanquish evil and break curses this sword really would be a welcome addition to anyone’s kit bag and really let’s be honest I can’t think of a better more well-known sword in gaming history.
Blades of Chaos – God of War
If having blades is your thing but the Master Sword fells a little slow for you then the Blades of Chaos might be the thing for you. These chained blades were fashioned by the God of War Ares. The blades chains which are permanently seared onto the forearms of whoever wields would stretch out a set distance allowing for fluid movement no matter who used them. Great weapons for long ranged attacks and lethal at close range these blades would quickly empty any room. Just be careful not to slice your own legs off whilst swinging away.
When it comes to the skies I’m picking Bzzit all day long
Time to take to the skies with my next weapon. This one is clearly one of the more controversial picks on the list. Sure if I was going to take the fight to the skies I could pick a Harrier or an Apache helicopter but their too easy. With Bzzit he offers up the aerial threat but is also able to do a few things even the mighty Apache can’t do. First off Bzzit is nimble and in tight spaces will still be of some use whilst firing his projectiles and if all gets too much he can suck up on coming enemies and fire them back out. (I would like to see an Apache do that). So yes maybe it would be a more sensible option to get a jet or helicopter but for me they are just too generic and easy. When it comes to the skies I’m picking Bzzit all day long.
R.Y.N.O – Ratchet and Clank
In all my years of playing games I have seen some pretty devastating weapons but the R.Y.N.O has to be one of the most devastating. The R.Y.N.O (Rip You a New One) is an auto targeting rocket launcher. The R.Y.N.O is capable of firing seven individual rockets, which would then seek out and destroy any enemy in the vicinity. Couple this with an extremely high rate of fire and you really do have a weapon that will clean a city in minutes never mind a room.
Red Faction – Singularity Cannon
It’s been tough to pick a final weapon for this list. I’ve had many different thoughts as to what should be in this slot but it has ultimately come down to one gun I’ve had so much fun with. The singularity gun really does offer up some unbelievable amounts of fun as the damage it can do is incredible.
When fired at a target everything around the target gets pulled in and then explodes. This weapon really is a great way of clearing out a large number of enemies and is also a great way of making short work of any nearby buildings.
So there you have it my 10 weapons I would pick if it all went to shit and computer games weapons existed. Now as this is an opinion piece not everyone is going to agree with my selection and in some ways i hope you don’t agree with it because that would just be boring. So sound off below and let me know what you would want to take into battle.
