The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey BilboSting1 602x376 Top 5 Bladed Weapons in Games

Swords have always been important in human history and myth. From King Arthur’s Excaliber to Sting from The Hobbit, swords have always held our fascination. With this in mind I decided to list a few of the most influential swords and other edged weapons from video games.

Biggoron’s Sword
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

When I first got this sword as the Giant’s Knife, I was pretty excited to use it.

That is until it broke as soon as I used it. Then, after a long trading quest acquiring the items necessary to have the sword repaired, I received the Biggoron’s Sword. While it didn’t come close to the Master Sword in my mind, I still enjoyed using it and will forever be high on my list.

Most Memorable Moment: My most memorable moment using the Biggoron’s Sword was in the Ganondorf Boss Fight in Ocarina of Time. There is a sequence where Ganondorf would shoot a fireball at you, and you had to hit it back at him. Since the Biggoron’s Sword is a two-handed sword, it was like playing a game of baseball against one of the most notorious villains in video games. That was pretty freaking cool.

Hidden Blade
Assassin’s Creed Series

No assassin is complete without the hidden blade.

Moving up silently behind an enemy to silently kill them with the hidden blade was always satisfying. The only thing more dangerous than an assassin with a hidden blade is an assassin with TWO hidden blades.

Most Memorable Moment: Walking up behind a target, and silently killing him with a quick, fatal stab of the hidden blade. Extremely satisfying.

Masamune
Chrono Trigger

This sword was always my idea of the perfect classic looking sword. It may not have any frills, but it held incredible power.

Only wield able by Frog, the sword was extremely effective against Magus. With the work I put into getting it, I felt more of a connection to the sword than most other swords.

Most Memorable Moment: Defeating Magus the first time, since without Masamune it probably would not be possible.

Tomahawk
Assassin’s Creed 3

I’m probably going to take flack for this, but this is one of my favorite weapons to use in a game. It is fast, brutal, and ruthless. When using the tomahawk, it was like you could almost feel the weight of the weapon when Conner swung it. The animations used for the tomahawk were very entertaining. Plus I would just walk around town with Conner twirling it in his hand.

Most Memorable Moment: Any moment you are fighting multiple enemies at once. The tomahawk combat is one of my favorites.

Master Sword
Legend of Zelda Series

This is without a doubt the greatest sword in any video game ever. The Master Sword was integral in the Legend of Zelda series, and is one of the most iconic weapons in the world of video games. I fell in love with the Master Sword in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time and it has been my favorite ever since.

Most Memorable Moment: When I pulled the Master Sword out of the stone in the Temple of Time, turning me into Adult Link. That moment brought video games to a whole new level for me.
