August 2012 offers decent games providing hours of fun for gamers. Here are our most anticipated titles of the month.
Deponia
Release Date: August 7th | Platform: PC
Our thoughts | Conner42: It’s a point and click adventure game…and it looks really good! That’s(sadly) pretty much the reason why I’m excited for this game. But, it does have a great looking art style and it involves a love story that involves a person that’s able to blow up the entire world by accident.
The game has actually gotten decent reviews by people who’ve played it so far, and if that’s not enough to get excited about a neat looking point and click adventure game, it’s at least enough
for me!
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Release Date: August 19th | Platform: 3DS
Our thoughts | MkaY: The predecessor was awesome, I see no reason that this one is not. The game continues the style of gameplay from New Super Mario Bros. featuring side-scrolling platform action as we once again try to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser and the Koopalings. Is she in another castle? We can count on it.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Release Date: August 21st | Platform: PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Our thoughts | Seph: For most FPS fans, Counter-strike is the pinnacle of PC shooters. Valve took a common formula and created a team-based FPS game that appealed to the hardcore gamer, spawning a generation of gun-toting fans, legendary maps (Dust_2… lest we forget) and even worldwide cash-winning tournaments.
With this HD overhaul, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive brings the series to consoles for the first time. Let’s just hope it retains that ‘hardcore’ feeling without leaning majorly towards the casual gaming market. But judging from the Beta, that really shouldn’t be a problem.
Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition
Release Date: August 24th |
Platform: PC
Our thoughts | Stretch: Dark Souls made a splash that is still getting bigger and bigger. After a legion of fans demanded Dark Souls on the PC, it’s finally here and boasts brand new bosses, equipment, environments and characters.
Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition has the chance to engross its players deeper into its world. It’s already worked on me and it isn’t even out yet.
Guild Wars 2
Release Date: August 28th |
Platform: PC
Our thoughts | GideonKain: Guild Wars 2 is primed to become the next evolutionary step in the massively multiplayer game space. It reportedly eschews many of the tired conventions of the typical “Wow-clone”. Perhaps, most notably the required monthly subscription fee.
If it is as original and innovative as the available media would have me believe we may be treated to the first next generation MMORPG later this month.
