Few weeks ago I couldn’t see myself this excited about Far Cry 3. Then E3 came and after seeing the gameplay videos and learning more about the game itself, I had a sudden change of heart.
For those who are unfamiliar with the franchise; Far Cry is basically a VERY beautiful first-person-shooter. Like pretty much every game that receives sequels, the earlier installments received fairly positive reviews.
What to expect?
During the E3 Sony conference, Ubisoft took to the stage to present 4-Player Co-op for Far Cry 3. In the demonstration, four players worked together to take down enemies in somewhat familiar environments.
we just might see few less solo-players (online)
For me, this is was the most satisfying aspect of the whole presentation. The gameplay video provided lots of variety in play styles and encouraged the players to work together as a team. If the game system supports people to work together, we just might see few less solo-players (online) when we get our hands on the game.
Far Cry 3 certainly is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea if we can believe the trailers
The smooth animations are worth mentioning too. Take notice of the nice fluidity of motions from characters and objects. These small details with big effects are where games such as Far Cry get their momentum. I mean, you can’t have a smooth fast-paced shooter without feats such as this. Far Cry 3 seems to do an excellent job here.
What I’ve described earlier are mainly actual gameplay issues. While Far Cry 3 might have a good co-op multiplayer, a good game must have at least a decent single-player campaign too. Far Cry 3 certainly is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea if we can believe the trailers:
But the theme, even as strong as it is, will work for the game’s benefit. So many games fail because they simply lack contrast. A good product, that applies to games too, doesn’t please everyone. It pleases certain audiences and THAT is enough to make a game a hit…
Usually I’m not too fond of drugs and excessive violence in video games, but this time I’m going to make an exception. – I don’t even have to mention that Far Cry 3 looks very good!
So there it is. If you haven’t been a fan of the series earlier, Far Cry 3 just might be the time to give the game a spin.
The game is released September 4, 2012
