While there are no huge titles to be released this month, June still offers decent games providing hours of fun for gamers.
Lollipop Chainsaw
Release Date: June 15th | Platform: PS3, Xbox 360
Our thoughts | Seph: The thought of slashing wildly at zombies is fun. Add to this a chainsaw, cheerleaders and disembodied heads offering advice. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. Grasshopper Manufactures, the lovely people who also made the wonderfully weird Killer 7, are developing Lollipop Chainsaw.
This crazy title promises an array of action, horror and hack/slash beauty. Here’s hoping this eccentric title fully delivers!
The Amazing Spider-Man
Release Date: June 26th |
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360, 3DS, DS, PC, Wii
Our thoughts | Stretch: Covering virtually all consoles and handhelds, The Amazing Spider-Man serves as an epilogue to the upcoming film with Lizard as the villain. It’s about time! The web swinging in Spider-Man games has had some drastic changes over the years, for better and for worse.
This installment introduces the Web Rush mechanic, where Spidey locks onto objects and guides himself towards them, which may either make free-roaming awkward or much more streamlined. If it’s as open and campy as Spider-Man 2: The Game, then I’m happy.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
Release Date: June 19th |
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Vita, DS
Our thoughts | Conner42: What? No! It’s not just a kids game; these LEGO games have been pretty awesome so far. Ok, granted, I haven’t played all of them, so, I’m not as tired as everyone else probably is, but I have played the first LEGO Batman, and it’s cool, so, we can expect the coolness from its sequel as well.
Not only do we get to play Batman and Robin and other guys from the Batman cast, but we also get to play as Superman and the Green Lantern and other cool guys. This game looks like it’s making some drastic changes to it’s usual formula, and it’s enough to get excited for another LEGO game. Also, Batman!
Max Payne 3
Release Date: Today! | Platform: PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Our thoughts | GideonKain: The progenitor of the “bullet time” mechanic in video games, Max Payne returns. He looks to be as tormented as ever, popping pain killers and taking on thugs in South America. Lets hope that the extra development time invested into retooling this IP results in a gem like Red Dead Redemption and not something lackluster like LA Noire.
The Secret World
Release Date: June 16th | Platform: PC
Our thoughts | GideonKain: An MMO set in a modern day world rife with secret societies and supernatural entities. It has been reported that this new MMO features a classless , level-free character system where players can mix and max over 100 different skills in order to create the perfect agent to serve one of three different clandestine factions. The Illuminati, The Templar or The Dragons.
To quote VentureBeat: “If you enjoy TV shows like The X-Files or Fringe, or authors like Neil Gaiman and Stephen King, you’ll love The Secret World’s atmosphere.” –I like all those things!
