It was revealed during the Spike Video Game Awards this year that the newest Command & Conquer game, Command & Conquer: Generals 2, would be developed by Bioware utilizing the Frostbite 2 engine, most recently seen on display in Battlefield 3.
If you think it’s an odd choice for Bioware, a company known for it’s excellent story-centric games like the Mass Effect series, to take up the reigns of a long struggling RTS franchise, you’re right.
Command & Conquer: Generals 2 isn’t being developed by the same Bioware that created Mass Effect.
In fact, Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is being developed by the same studio that developed the previous, and underwhelming Command & Conquer 4, they’re just called “Bioware” now.
There are now a total of eight separate studios with the BioWare brand name:
- BioWare Edmonton (developer of the Mass Effect series)
- BioWare Austin (developer of the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic)
- BioWare Mythic (formally Mythic, developers of the Warhammer Online MMO)
- BioWare Montreal
- BioWare Ireland
- BioWare San Francisco
- BioWare Sacramento (developer of “social games”, like the ones you see on Facebook)
- BioWare Victory (developer of the upcoming Command & Conquer: Generals 2)
BioWare Victory (formally Victory Games) is a studio that branched off of EA Los Angeles, they aren’t the studio responsible for the Mass Effect and Baldur’s Gate series, they are just owned by the same publisher, Electronic Arts.
EA placing the “BioWare” name on so many games being developed by so many different studios can only succeed in diluting the brand in the end. Not every game released with the misleading BioWare name is going to be a hit.
If I am wrong, I will be apologizing with my wallet.

I love sharing my unique perspective on games with our readers. I think they deserve to know the truth. :)

Umm.. are you by chance a retard? BioWare bought Mythic then merged with them per the contract by EA. Look at Rockstar Games.
Do your research before you start saying things that aren’t true.
With respect, sir, you are incorrect.
@Tom
Mythic was bought by EA not Bioware. Then they were merged with bioware.
